In this lovely book, Dave Eggers delivers his typical heartfelt and poetic storytelling while sharing the story of Valentino Deng, a Sudanese refugee. The central theme of the biography/novel is a search for meaning and peace in a scary and unfair world. He and Valentino worked closely to write the truth about the Lost Boys of Sudan and the details are horrifying, but the message is one of hope and, always, love. It is a special, special book that changed me forever.
He also wrote the Pulitzer Prize winning A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius which is one of the funniest, saddest, most disarmingly honest memoirs that I have ever read. It is more than worth checking out, as well.
