Well, it’s 2016 and we have all made it another year. However, when you consider your resolution for this upcoming year, it may be wise to keep it simple.
According to John Schumman via npr.org, living longer may be tied to a life of activity, socialization, balanced eating and a healthy dose of exercise. Shocker, right?
Well, no, not really.
But, here’s something to think about
People in these communities often live well beyond 100 years:
- Okinawa, Japan
- Ikaria, Greece
- Sardinia, Italy
- Nicoya, Costa Rica
- Loma Linda, Calif.
In these places, people have preventive medicine baked into their lives, mostly without even having to think about it. Their daily activities involve eating healthful diets rich in local plants, walking most places and lots of intergenerational social interaction.

In those communities, they drink alcohol and eat meat in moderation, as well. Keyword: Moderation!
It seems that the key to a long life may be to enjoy family and friends, get back to basics and eat reasonably. It also won’t hurt to get outside, laugh a little and enjoy people, places and things!
What’s your New Year’s resolution?
