Feeling crappy today? Yep. Been there. Might even be there while you are reading this. So, if you are feeling like you are on the verge of a complete meltdown (been there, too!)…
Here is what I think:
You need to find a way to laugh your ass, literally, off.
The effects of laughter and exercise are very similar,” says Wilson. “Combining laughter and movement, like waving your arms, is a great way to boost your heart rate.” Steve Wilson, MA, CSP, a psychologist and laugh therapist.
I could not agree more with Mr. Wilson. I know that it is cliche but laughter really is the best medicine, I have found. And, having dealt with chronic mental health issues within my immediate family, as well as moderate OCD in myself, I kind of know something about it. So, I feel like I have the right to say this…
If you are not laughing at your life, no matter how good or bad said life is, you are going to go nutty. By the way, if your life is good right now, and you are taking yourself way too seriously, you are likely to fall apart as soon as things get tough. If you are having a rough day, month, year, decade, whatever – you need to find a reason to laugh… immediately.
Seeing the humor in life is 100 % guaranteed to improve your attitude. Well, OK, the research is not definitive on that. BUT, it can’t possibly hurt.
Recognizing the freakiness and randomness of it all is the easiest way out of whatever hole that you are in. It’s way too weird of a journey not get a chuckle out of it. Read this lovely letter from a dying atheist to her young daughter for a great example of how to laugh your way through this crazy ride.
